THE NELSON PLANTATION ROCKING HORSES

Services

We offer rocking horses for sale that are in varying degrees of restoration, but for the most part we prefer and recommend full restoration.

This is "BOSS" before restoration. As you can see there is not much to work with. He didn't even have a stand!

This is "BOSS" afterwards. His stand is not completed yet and he is not mounted, but you get the idea! We were able to use most of the tack and hardware that he came with to help keep the "antiqued" appearance.

  • Restoration

Whenever possible, we like to use any tack and hardware that is original to the horse and then add what is needed to complete the look, keeping as close to the original theme as we can.

  • Renovation

Quite often a rocker's stand is missing parts, or perhaps is missing altogether!  We have experience in crafting parts or the whole thing if needed, always trying to stay as true as possible to the original. Stands can be reproduced and then "antiqued" or can be restored to "like new" condition.

  • Re-creation of an Heirloom

We love to be creative, and these rockers have so much personality waiting to be brought to life. Creating a pony with the owner's preferred colors and style is always a treat , and fun!

  • Rejuvenation

We have developed a wonderful technique of painting these guys that has really turned out well, leaving the horse not only rejuvenated (while keeping an antiqued patina), but durable as well!  Not only are they suitable once again for little riders, but.........Boy they look good!

Later dubbed "ROBIN", this is a little 17" wooden rocker before we got hold of him.

This is "ROBIN" after filling in his legs, cutting out some hooves, shortening his muzzle, replacing the straw mane and tail with more realistic material, adding an antiqued and sealed coat of paint, then a new saddle blanket and tack topped it off.  A completely different creature, don't you think?

 Personal Touches

Creating new tack for the rockers is one of the services we offer. Here are some close ups of "Nasty Boy's" tack, which was redone to look new.
